Question

I have a question. My husband is required to reimburse payment of his son's insurance. His step-dad carries insurance for the whole family. There are 6 of them. His employer charges the insurance but then gives them credits to use towards insurance. Is he only responsible for the difference or the full amount? Also, are we responsible for 1/6 of total insurance or 1/4 of the difference between employee and spouse and employee and children?

Answer

Your husband would have to pay for the cost of insuring only this child. It appears that there are a bunch of you on the policy.

So courts are trying to be fair. Some judges would take the total and divide by the number of people insured. I suspect that your husband's cost would be around $100 or less per month for a minor child on an insurance policy. You can calculate the insurance both ways that you listed above - try to determine what the children cost and divide by the number of children.

I hope this info helps.

Merry Christmas!
