Question

A friend and I were caught on camera pulling a prank on a friends car. The estimate for a new paint job is about 1200. If you take the car down to the shop the day before we commit the crime, the damages total would remain the same. The cars paint job was crap to begin with.

We got to a point where we agreed to pay the damages in return for them dropping the criminal charges of mischief.

If we pay him in one dollar bills when we go to the magistrates office to sign the paper work could we be held in contempt of court? ...Or does what it says on the dollar bill still ring true in this situation. "THIS NOTE IS LEGAL TENDER FOR ALL DEBTS, PUBLIC AND PRIVATE"

Thanks so much, looking forward to hearing back from you!

Sincerely, Jason Fogel

Answer

Dear Jason,

You won't be in contempt, However, you are being a complete jerk.

John
