Why does your car not move when the gas pedal is pressed?
This has happened to me. Sometimes it can be a number of things; is the car in park, is the emergency break on, is there a block under a tire, etc. It could also be a faulty line or wire. It may seem unnecessary but call a mechanic and let him/her know.
