What does the ancient German car brand DKW mean?
DKW stands for Dampf-Kraft-Wagen (steam-driven car). The now defunct car and motorcycle brand was founded in 1916 by Swede Jrgen Skafte Rasmussen (1878 - 1964) in Zschopau, Saxony, Germany. In 1932 the company merged with Audi, Horch and Wanderer to form the Auto Union. The last car to be produced under the DKW marque was the F102, the last of which ran off the production line in 1966.
