Answer

yes, you can write a Last Will and Testament, and if it is wholly in your handwritting, you do not need a notary and witnesses. Only your signature and date. I suggest that you do not do this, particularly if it is not a question of being able to afford an attorney. An attorney can come to you and prepare a Will, even if you are in the hospital, and have it witnessed and notarized as required by law. In this manner, you will know your options, include things that you may not have thought about, and if you come out of the surgery incapacitated, it is more important that you have durable powers of attorney, so someone can step in and take care of you, and if you pass away, your affairs will be handled as you would like.
