Question

Is there a time limit for a judge to respond to a motion? This motion in particular was filed over a month ago by our lawyer and as of today there has been no response yet.

Answer

Yes, there are time limits, depending on the type of motion (civil action? criminal action?). However, you should also know that judges are given a good bit of latitude in ruling on a motion. Some judges purposely hold off on ruling on a motion in order to force the parties to negotiate a settlement or for some other reason. Speak with your attorney if you have any addition questions as he/she is in the best position to know what's going on in your case.

Best of luck.******The above is for informational purposes only and does not create an attorney-client privilege.********

Answer

Not set time limits. Practical considerations may require a ruling in order for a case to proceed, but the court's discretion and workload often influence how long a ruling takes.
