How do I file an Amended Complaint to substitue True Names for DOE defendants in San Francisco Superior Court? If I do an ex parte motion, do I need an ex parte order for shortening time or just an exparte motion to amend the complaint?

I suggest that you file an ex parte application for an order substituting REAL NAME for DOE 1 or, in the alternative, to shorten time to hear a noticed motion. Make sure you give the appearing defendants statutory notice of the ex parte, and include necessary information in your or your assistant's declaration. In that way, the court could decide how it wants the matter to be handled.
