Hi My is a university student who rents an apartment in a complex that housing mostly college kids located in Glassboro New Jersey. His current lease ends 7-25-13, but he needs one more semester of school. His apartment complex said he can sign a short term Lease that would end 12-26-13 which is perfect but they want to charge him a "Short Term Lease Fee" of 200.00 is this legal?

The Short answer is yes. Many times shorter lease terms come with higher rent, or what this would be called a short term lease fee. .
