i recently ask a question about my rights as a grandparent and i got a response that i did not state the problem well here is a a few of the things my grandson told me
we went to a supermarket to get some grocery and he was picking up some cereal that i did not have the money to pay for and he said to me we can steal it, he also told me that his aunt lock him in a closet and would not let him out and also that his mom leave him alone with his 4 year old cousin and go out to parties, so my question remain the same, my grand son lives in Baltimore with his mom she has custody and my son who is the father of my grandson is in jail, so is there anything i can do as a grandparent to make sure that he is safe, because i don't think a 6 year old should tell me that i can steal cereal from a supermarket
Answer
You need to direct your question to a Maryland family law attorney. Since the mother has custody and lives in Baltimore, any custody action will have to be brought there.
Do not call child protective authorities as there is no guarantee that the child will be placed with you. Further, there are no guarantees that the child will be placed in a loving home either. He might find himself in a worse situation.
If you really love your grandchild, talk with the attorney and find out how difficult it will be for you, a non-parent, to get custody of the child in a custody suit that you bring.
