What is SCAPA?
SCAPA is an acronym that stands for the School for the Creative and Preforming Arts. It is one of the special art schools across the world. You must audition in an art area to attend. If you get in, that art area will be your major.Majors include--Art (Visual)BandBalletCreative WritingContemporary DanceDrama/TheaterPianoStringsVocalYou must be very good at your art area to attend because there is much competition. Only about 50 students for each grade level get in.There is only about 250 students attending SCAPA. The grade ranges from 4th grade to 8th grade. Then, if you choose to continue in the SCAPA program, you can attend Layfayette highschool, much more famous for the arts.
Most students audition for SCAPA in 3rd grade for SCAPA but you can audition at anytime, but the chances are much more less likley.SCAPA is located in Lexington, Kentucky.Many people believe that SCAPA students don't have to do regular math and literature. This is false. SCAPA school time starts at 8:25 and ends at 3:45, the same hours as magnet schools, for SCAPA is one. SCAPA students do math, science, social studies, and literature everyday. Not to mention extra curricular classes, like Musical Technology, or Physical Education.SCAPA has a State winning speech team and has won for about 12-13 years straight! They are undefeted. Actually, they are so good that rival teams will burn penguins (the SCAPA mascot) before the match. SCAPA kids actually kiss a stuffed penguin before the winnings are anounced-- for luck.
