Can an employer write up an "at-will" employee without a company handbook or disciplinary policy in place?

Question

Can an employer write up an "at-will" employee without a company handbook or disciplinary policy in place?

Answer

It depends on what you mean by "write up." Also, generally speaking "at will" simply means not for a fixed period and both the employer and employee are free to voluntarily terminate the relationship as they see fit... There are some exceptions to this general rule however.
