Specialty cars may include the Jeep Wrangler (soft top, no A/C),the Toyota Prius, and the new Nissan Leaf. Enterprise also now hasan "Exotics" rental fleet at a small number of locations (usuallyairports), and these include the Mustang GT, Corvette, Tesla,Lamborghini, Maserati, BMW 5-series, Jaguar, Porsche, Audi 6 and 8series, and others. Be aware that to rent some of the exotics, youmust be able to prove that you already own a car of similarperformance nature (because they don't want someone with noexperience driving Porsches to rent one and kill themselves ordestroy the car).
Not all cars are available in all locations. Local market oftendetermines the composition of the fleet, and there is a big "pool"of cars the branches use.
Pickup trucks are usually crew cab (4-door) with a short box, andquite comfortable. You can get a 4-wheel-drive version of many cars(if available from the manufacturer in that configuration) if youask in advance, as the branch may need to get it from somewhereelse. In my company's case, we're used to pickup trucks beingrented by contractors or other people doing rough work, and it'scommon for the beds to be scratched up and have weird things inthem (I found a 3/4" drill bit once).
Most rental companies do not allow towing with their vehicles (eventhe trucks), even if they are equipped with a tow hitch and/ortowing gear ratios. Also, even though vehicles like the JeepWrangler are "trail rated", your rental contract probably will notallow you to take the vehicle off-road. Read your contract, and askyour agent.
Sometimes the categories are not hard and fast, and the classessuch as "intermediate" or "standard" can encompass vehicles ofwidely different sizes and fuel economy. It's getting moredifficult today to determine what size class a particular car fallsinto, and each company has their own rules for it.
