Why are small turbo diesel cars not imported to the US?

Why are small turbo diesel cars not imported to the US?
Because as a rule Americans don't want small cars.
VW ,BMW and M_Benz all offer diesels.
the question is why don't U.S. manufacturers offer small diesels.
