The question can be addressed from the standpoint of "can there" and "will there" be consequences. The answer to "will there" is unknowable, many lenders are unwilling to persue civil or criminal avenues due to the cost and time consumption. Some are quite willing.

There most certainly can be consequences depending on the circumstances. Was the motor apart for repairs or was is stripped? BK law forbids you from willfully damaging collateral property. There also may be local or other laws that layer on top of that to make destruction illegal. From a civil standpoint many lenders place wording on their loan notes that require the vehicle be maintained in good condition.
